Was British Rule good for India?

Recently there was a good and quite healthy debate on my BB about whether British rule was good or bad. There were lots of points covered from both positive and negative side of it. I thought of getting views from others as well ... what you think about it.. share your comments..

In my view.. it was bad - very bad for India (or should I say - Bharat ??). As one said very well.. we are using leftovers from them - which is now said to be a good thing which British done - railway, linking india to one government.. etc.. I would say those as leftover because they built those for their own purpose - purpose to rule india - purpose to expand empire - purpose to move prosperity from India to UK.

Whether we were good compare to them before thy came? I think yes.. otherwise why should they come to India at the first place ???

Whether we could have in better position in the world if we were free all the time.. who knows .. may be yes.. may be no.. but we r not in good position right now - that we know.

I always stayed away from blogs.. and now I am writing one.. I don't know how it happened ... but it happened..

I will put full blame on my dear friend somu .. He used to be like me as far as blog or orkut is concern.. but became very active member in no time..
